Orcinus Recruit was founded in 2011 by Managing Director Sarah King, a hospitality expert with a lifetime of industry experience both as a Chef and in Recruitment.
Sarah’s career spanned London to Dubai and New York working in properties up to Michelin Star Status, her incredible experiences included working for the Michelin Acclaimed Chef Grey Kunz in the Time Warner Centre situated directly below the world-renowned Thomas Keller’s 3 Star Per Se Restaurant.
‘It was never my intention to permanently leave the kitchen, yet upon returning to the UK from New York, I took a break from the heat of the kitchen to really reflect on where my career was going and what I wanted moving forwards. I found myself working for one of the biggest hospitality recruitment companies in the UK, recruiting Chefs. It was at this point in 2007, I realised the enormity of the skills shortage we were facing as an industry and decided I wanted to be part of the solution to resolve the issues which faced us.’
In 2009, Sarah took a 7-month sabbatical, travelling the world experiencing difference cultures and savouring many cuisines from Asia to South America. On her return to the UK and with 100% commitment to the industry, she founded a Orcinus, supporting employers of fresh food led properties, helping to strengthen kitchen brigades through recruitment. Sarah now supports Chefs and her clients through a number of services including mentoring and in 2017 launched Orcinus Training an apprenticeship company focused on upskilling existing team members and encouraging new talent into the industry.
‘It is my mission this year to really shout about the issues that face us and to get us all, as an industry, working closely together to find a solution.’
